Skip Pope Stadium
Everyday, hundreds of students pass through Skip Pope Stadium on the way to and from school activities, but probably very few of them know who Skip Pope was. Bobby (Skip) Pope was Sequoyah High Schools first athletic director and assistant principal. Skip was not only instrumental in developing the standards and beginning the legacy for Sequoyah, he a was also a man who was truly loved by his friends, faculty and students. On October 20th, 1991, a tragic automobile accident claimed the life of Bobby (Skip) Pope. In tribute to him, the football stadium was respectfully named Skip Pope Stadium. Because of the dedication and love the he put into making Sequoyah a place of honor and pride, he is remembered still today as one of the great pioneers in the history of Sequoyah High School.
